Omar Infante goes on disabled list, Royals call up Pedro Ciriaco
Omar Infante may have simplified the Royals’ roster dilemma on Tuesday afternoon. With his lower back not responding after a week off, the team placed him on the disabled list and categorized his condition as an irritated disk.
In his place, the team recalled utility infielder Pedro Ciriaco. Johnny Giavotella will continue to start at second base in Infante’s absence. Giavotella cracked a go-ahead, three-run homer in a comeback victory on Sunday.
Over the weekend, manager Ned Yost speculated the team would need to add a reliever to their bullpen. The team completed the past series against Seattle with an 11-man pitching staff.
For now, the team will continue to use a smaller bullpen as they begin a two-game series against the hard-hitting Rockies on Tuesday.
When asked before Tuesday’s game about the prospect of sending Mike Moustakas to Omaha, Yost said “I’m not going to do it.”
