Third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert hits two homers in Naturals’ win

Third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert hit two home runs Wednesday and Class AA Northwest Arkansas won 6-4 at Springfield.

The game was tied 2-2 in the third inning when Lane Adams walked. After Jorge Bonifacio flied out, Adams stole second. Cuthbert, who is on the Royals’ 40-man roster, then hit a two-run shot that put the Naturals ahead to stay.

Cuthbert hit a solo homer in the fifth inning to make it 5-2, but the Cardinals scored a pair in the bottom of the inning.

In the ninth, second baseman Whit Merrifield singled with one out. Center fielder Lane Adams followed with a single, and Merrifield came all the way around to score after an error. Merrifield had two hits and walked twice.

J.C. Sulbaran allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits in 4 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out three. Andrew Triggs, 2-0, allowed three hits in 3 2/3 scoreless innings. Scott Alexander pitched a perfect ninth for his second save.

• Games for Class AAA Omaha and Class A Lexington were postponed because of rain. Class A-Advanced Wilmington had a scheduled day off.
