Royals minor-league affiliates wear the collar

Class A-Advanced Wilmington scored three runs in the top of the first inning of the opener of a doubleheader at Myrtle Beach on Saturday, but it all went south from there.

The Pelicans rallied for a 4-3 win in the first game, then took the nightcap 7-2.

Raul Mondesi opened the first game with a single and Bubba Starling followed with a double that brought home Mondesi. Hunter Dozier’s single put runners on the corner and Zane Evans followed with an RBI single. After Johermyn Chavez was hit by a pitch, Jack Lopez’s RBI grounder made it 3-0.

Christian Binford gave it back in the bottom half as Myrtle Beach tied the game, then won it with a run in the fifth inning.

In the second game, starter Daniel Stumpf gave up four runs on nine hits in four innings with five strikeouts. Raul Mondesi had a hit in the night cap (and three for the day) before being ejected for arguing balls and strikes. Catcher Zane Evans and shortstop Jack Lopez each had two hits.
