Naturals swept in a doubleheader
The math was ugly for Class AA Northwest Arkansas on Tuesday: 20 innings of baseball, one run and two losses.
After collecting one hit in a 1-0, seven-inning loss to Midland in the opener (Justin Trapp’s single in the fifth inning was the lone hit), the Naturals gave up five in the 13th inning of a 6-1 loss in the nightcap.
Naturals starter Tim Melville pitched one-hit ball in five innings in the second game with three walks and five strikeouts. Noel Arguelles gave up a run in the 11th, but Cheslor Cuthbert’s sacrifice fly scored Angel Franco to tie the game in the bottom of the frame.
First baseman Jared Schlehuber took the mound in the 13th inning and gave up five runs.
In the opener, Jason Adam gave up one run on two hits with three walks and four strikeouts in four innings.
**Aaron Brooks (four innings, three hits), Justin Marks (three innings, no hits) and Buddy Baumann (two innings, one hit) combined on a shutout as Class AAA Omaha beat Round Rock 6-0. Catcher Francisco Pena hit a two-run homer in the second inning against Nick Tepesch, who played at Blue Springs High School. Christian Colon had two hits, including a double and an RBI. Matt Fields had a hit and an RBI and has a hit in every game this season.
**Andrew Edwards threw five shutout innings, but Class A Lexington lost 5-3 at Rome. Edwards gave up four hits, walked a batter and struck out four when he gave the game to the bullpen. Designated hitter Fred Ford had two hits, walked once, scored twice and had an RBI. Catcher Frank Schwindel had two hits and first baseman Samir Duenez had two RBIs.
