Strong debuts for Marimon and Selman on Friday night
Sugar Ray Marimon made a successful debut with Class AAA Omaha on Friday as he pitched five shutout innings in the Storm Chasers’ 5-4 victory at Nashville.
Marimon, who was promoted from Class AA Northwest Arkansas earlier in the day, gave up just two hits, walked one and struck out two. After a short stay with the Royals, Aaron Brooks made his first appearance of the season and allowed three runs in one inning of work.
First baseman Matt Fields was one for three with two walks and has at least one hit in every game this season. Left fielder Brian Fletcher and right fielder Paulo Orlando each had two hits, while shortstop Christian Colon had two RBIs.
OTHER GAMES**Frisco scored a run in the ninth against Malcom Culver and won 2-1 at Class AA Northwest Arkansas. Left-hander Sam Selman, who made his 2014 season debut, allowed just an unearned run in five innings, giving up two hits with four walks and four strikeouts. First baseman Jared Schlehuber had the Naturals’ lone RBI.
**Jonathan Dziedzic and Glenn Sparkman combined on a five-hitter as Class A-Advanced Wilmington beat Winston-Salem 5-0. Dziedzic struck out seven in six innings, while allowing four hits. Sparkman gave up one hit in three innings with five strikeouts. Daniel Rockett hit a bases-loaded triple in the fourth inning and scored on a sacrifice fly.
**Ramon Torres hit a solo homer in the third inning, Dominique Taylor had a two-run shot in the fourth and Class A Lexington scored three in the fifth inning of a 6-3 win at West Virginia. Matt Tenuta gave up four hits and a run in five innings and got the win.
