Royals’ Ciriaco clears waivers, sent to Omaha

Royals utility infielder Pedro Ciriaco cleared waivers and was assigned to Class AAA Omaha.

The Royals designated Ciriaco for assignment last week to clear space on their roster for an extra arm in the bullpen. That reliever, Aaron Brooks, was never used.

The team shipped Brooks, along with lefty Donnie Joseph, back to the minors on Wednesday morning in return for second baseman Johnny Giavotella and reliever Louis Coleman.
