Royals trade minor-league catcher Adam Moore to the Padres
The Royals have traded minor-league catcher Adam Moore to the Padres for cash considerations.
The team re-assigned Moore to minor-league camp over the weekend. He played for bench coach Don Wakamatsu in Seattle and had appeared in nine games with the Royals between 2012 and 2013. In 77 big-league games, Moore is a .200 hitter with 16 extra-base hits.
But the team appears committed to utilizing Brett Hayes as the primary backup to Salvador Perez. Ramon Hernandez remains in camp, mostly as an insurance policy in case something happens to Hayes before the season begins.
A similar deal involving Hernandez could happen before Opening Day on Monday in Detroit.
