Omar Infante resumes throwing program after cortisone shot

The discomfort does not greet Omar Infante when he throws. Instead, he feels the effect of the bone spur in his right elbow when he swings a bat. Infante hit inside a cage on Saturday morning, and said he still felt a "just a little pinch" in his elbow.

Infante received a cortisone shot on Tuesday. He resumed his throwing program Saturday without any issues. But the injury still nags at him, which is cause for concern as the Royals finalize their roster.

"I think Omar’s going to be ready," manager Ned Yost said. "If he has another hiccup, he won’t be. But if everything is going to plan, he’ll be ready for Opening Day."

Here is the schedule Infante laid out. He’ll take soft toss on Sunday. On Monday, he hopes to take batting practice on the field. He does not know when he can return to Cactus League action, or how many games he requires to be ready for the season.

The team leaves for a two-game exhibition series in Milwaukee on Wednesday. Infante is unsure if he’ll play in a game before then.

"I don’t know, man," he said. "I think a couple more days, three more days, four more days, I’ll see how I’m feeling. I think every day I do a little more. And I think that’s helping."
