Four Royals make Baseball America’s top 100 prospects list

The Royals are well represented in the Baseball America’s 2014 edition of the top 100 prospects in the game. Four Royals made the cut:

• No. 23: RHP Kyle Zimmer.

• No. 26: RHP Yordano Ventura.

• No. 47: SS Raul Mondesi

• No. 90: OF Jorge Bonifacio.

You are likely familiar with all four. Zimmer was the No. 5 pick in the 2012 draft, and showed signs of dominance during his full-season debut in 2013. He’s expected to reach the majors by midseason this year.

Ventura is competing for the fifth spot in the big-league rotation. His undersized frame is still a cause for concern, but the team retains high hopes.

Mondesi doesn’t turn 19 until July. He survived a season at Class A Lexington at an exceedingly young age, batting .261/.311/.361. He still has plenty of time to grow.

Bonifacio, the younger brother of former Royal Emilio, is the youngest player at big-league camp this spring. He jumped all the way to Class A in 2013. He’s had trouble staying on the field, but his potential as a power hitter is still sizable.
