Our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be the recipients of a national debt enormous in size, which will cause sadness and harm if we don’t act. Our U.S. government needs to take helpful action.

Here’s a simple plan that could produce funds to help reduce our national debt. Extend to all of our citizens a new opportunity to contribute any amount of money to a “Free-the-Debt Fund.”

This campaign will be held quarterly, and each state would be held responsible to plan its campaign to collect funds for the debt, which would be turned over to the national debt fund.

By contributing, whether one dollar or thousands in cash, all would have a satisfying feeling that they are helping in this great need.

It’s true that Sen. Ted Cruz has roots in Canada. But many of his Texas Republican supporters don't see any problem with his potential presidential eligibility status.

Sure, his father was not an American citizen. His mother was, so that’s cool.

Of course, he was born in Canada, but he was raised in Texas. As one supporter said, “Canada is not really foreign soil.”

Oh, he also currently holds U.S. and Canadian citizenships. Hey, two is better than one.

So where are all the President Barack Obama birthers now? Anyone? Anyone?

Kansas City International Airport’s passenger count is down for 2013. The lack of traffic caused the closure of one terminal, and the remaining two are ghost towns in late evening.

The City Council would have you believe that building a $1.2 billion airport with fancier restaurants and amenities would increase those numbers.

I don't know about your family, but mine won’t take more vacations just so we can walk past those new stores. Businesses are even less inclined to increase travel expenses.

If members of the City Council think that these new airport businesses would be gold mines, then they should be required to invest their entire families’ net worth in them. Watch them dance around this.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry recently warned Israel that if the Palestine peace process was not completed, worldwide boycotts of products would happen. The only friend the United States has in the Middle East should not be openly threatened.

The United States’ only reliable link to solid information about terrorist activities needs support. The peace process between Israel and Palestine should be between those neighbors, and the U.S. should butt out.

The idea that the secretary would openly suggest any boycott actions is counterproductive and insulting to free nations that are not threatening our very existence. The man has to go.
