Pure partisanship on the part of Republican members of the House of Representatives is a categorical example of abuse of power while they accuse that of President Barack Obama.

He has had to resort to executive orders to bypass the roadblocks of lawmakers on the fanatical far right while they revel in their heady majority position. Being forced into alternative means of making the case for worthy causes is not an abuse of power, it is the last resort.

The push to upgrade Kansas City International Airport reminds me of when towns were built out West in late 1800s. As people arrived at Dodge City, Kan., Wichita and other cities, they saw a cluster of buildings with each having a 10-foot high false front serving as a sign of their business.

In fact, each wooden shack was nothing more than a functional place for a business.

From 1945 to 1985 in my career I was always threatened with the chance that I had to get on an aircraft and go somewhere. In all that time, I never thought of going to an airport to eat a nice meal, buy presents and then having a pleasant trip. False impressions never last.

Rebuilding Kansas City’s east side and southeast neighborhoods is far more important than upgrading KCI. Since 1965 about eight good companies were allowed to go away with no replacements. That’s a loss of jobs and a funding loss for public schools.

An airport is like a kitchen or bathroom. It serves a function.

In 1950 in Korea I helped run a busy K-9 ( Dog Patch) airstrip for six months.

Would someone text President Barack Obama and advise him that Obamamania has run its course and that the campaign rhetoric that snowed the voters in the past two presidential elections is no longer valid?

On any given day Obama will be operating in either of two modes — campaign or attack. When anyone opposes him he will go to any end to silence them.

As far as negotiating goes, his rationale is my way, my way or my way. Why not?

After all, he is the smartest person in the room, so why consider any other point of view? This attitude must be based on his vast experience in governing, foreign affairs, and business and economics.

Living large in office at taxpayers’ expense, operating in disregard for the law of the land and Constitution, using the Internal Revenue Service, National Security Agency and Justice Department to silence political opposition, exercising a policy of retreat in the Mideast, giving back all that was paid for in blood by our military in Iraq by failing to establish a status of forces agreement and allowing four Americans to die in Benghazi for political gain are only a few of his accomplishments.

This behavior is largely condoned by the biased, liberal media.
