The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada, is here. More than a premier sporting event, it represents North American cooperation at its peak. As our three nations collaborate to deliver the largest tournament in history, the focus extends far beyond the pitch to driving tourism, job creation and regional growth that directly benefits communities across Kansas City and beyond.

This tournament will be of unprecedented scale: 48 teams, 104 matches, and an expected global audience exceeding 6 billion viewers. Mexico, for its part, is leveraging this moment to generate social and economic benefits across all 32 of its states, reaching well beyond the host cities of Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City. Through public viewing events and community programs, the tournament’s impact will be felt by millions who may never step foot in a stadium.

This spirit of borderless cooperation is mirrored in the work of our consulates. For offices in host cities, this means operating with precision on two vital fronts: comprehensive preventive protection and dynamic public diplomacy.

Mexico has a longstanding tradition of excellence in consular protection. Our network in the United States possesses a robust framework of protocols proven effective during mass events. Our mission begins by empowering the community with clear information regarding their rights and responsibilities. By acting as an “interpreter” of local regulations, the consulate helps authorities reach a broader audience while launching campaigns to shield fans from fraudulent practices, such as ticket and rental scams. Ultimately, these efforts contribute to the safety and well-being of every spectator.

The World Cup is the ultimate stage for “soft power.” It provides a unique platform for host countries to showcase their heritage and engage in meaningful dialogue with new audiences. The Consulate of Mexico in Kansas City is planning an array of artistic, educational and economic activities to foster cultural understanding. This is a premier opportunity to showcase the diversity of Mexican culture — from our world-renowned gastronomy to our visual arts — and to celebrate the profound contributions of the Hispanic community to our local Kansas City identity.

The Mexican consulate in Kansas City is fully prepared. We have established rigorous protocols for emergencies and unforeseen situations. During the tournament, our office will extend its hours to assist with individual needs, from replacing lost passports to reporting incidents. Furthermore, we will deploy a series of public diplomacy initiatives locally, bringing the vibrant spirit of Mexico to the streets of Kansas City through cultural activations and community engagement.

The close coordination among Mexico, the United States and Canada ensures world-class security, transportation and infrastructure. This high-level cooperation proves that when we work together, we create safer cities, stronger communities and shared prosperity across the region.
