Omar Infante felt an onset of back spasms on Tuesday afternoon, so the Royals scratched him from that evening’s game against the Reds.

Ben Zobrist replaced Infante at second base. Jarrod Dyson filled the vacancy created by Zobrist’s departure from left field.

The presence of Zobrist allows Yost to sit Infante for as long as necessary.

“We’ll go day to day with it,” Yost said.

Infante has been one of the worst everyday hitters in the majors this season. He could lose his spot in the starting lineup when Alex Gordon returns from the disabled list in a couple weeks and reoccupies left field.
