Skipped in the last turn through the Royals rotation, Jeremy Guthrie will start Saturday in Kansas City. He will face White Sox starter Jeff Samardzija on the second day of a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals elected last week to keep Guthrie, 7-7 with a 5.65 ERA, in the rotation and send Chris Young, 8-6 with a 3.25 ERA, to the bullpen. Both Young and Kris Medlen are available as long relievers.

In his last outing, on July 29, Guthrie gave up eight runs in 5 1/3 innings to Cleveland. But manager Ned Yost decided to stick with Guthrie over Young, who has outperformed Guthrie as a starter for months.

Edinson Volquez will face John Danks on Friday. The series concludes on Sunday in a duel between lefties Danny Duffy and Jose Quintana.
