Center fielder Lorenzo Cain and relief pitcher Wade Davis were picked as the best Royals in the month of July.

The team announced Monday that Cain was named the Royals player of the month for July, while Davis was selected the pitcher of the month.

A combined fan and media vote is used to choose the player award, with the pitcher award voted on by local members of media.

In July, Cain hit .367 (seventh best in the American League) with eight doubles, two triples, five homers and he scored 22 runs, which led the league. Cain’s .667 slugging percentage was third-best in the A.L.

Davis was 4-0 in July, which tied for the most in the American League, and had an 0.84 ERA. He didn’t allow a hit over his last six July appearances, spanning 4 2/3 innings pitched.

It was the second time Davis has won the award.
