Catcher Salvador Perez experienced a scary moment in the fourth inning of the Royals’ 2-1 loss to Baltimore on Thursday. He slid into third baseman Manny Machado’s knee and wrenched his neck. Perez remained down on the ground for two minutes, but remained in the game.
He has a history of concussions. But team officials were not worried about a recurrence.
“It didn’t have anything to do with his head,” manager Ned Yost said. “It was his neck.”
“I didn’t feel dizzy or nothing,” Perez said. “I just felt like I strained my neck a little bit.”
