Michael Lindenberger was The Star’s opinion editor for only a few months last year before his untimely death in December at age 51. Though his time in Kansas City was short, his energy and enthusiasm will always stay with the colleagues who were lucky enough to know him.

Today, his legacy will live on for future generations of journalists devoted to strengthening our democracy.

The Kentucky native and Pulitzer Prize winner earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a law degree from the University of Louisville. That institution has created the Michael A. Lindenberger Memorial Scholarship to benefit student journalists of the independent Louisville Cardinal newspaper, where Michael served editor in chief in the mid-1990s.
