The last two starting pitchers for the Royals before the All-Star Game will become the first two after the break.

Edinson Volquez and Chris Young will get the call on Friday when the Royals play a split double header in Chicago against the White Sox.

Volquez started Sunday’s game against the Blue Jays, and Young started Saturday’s game.

The four-day All-Star break gives teams an opportunity to reset their rotation. Volquez entered Sunday’s start leading the staff in victories (8-4) and Young’s 3.00 ERA (3.24 as a starter) is the best in the rotation.

Jeremy Guthrie is scheduled to start on Saturday and Danny Duffy on Sunday.

Yordano Ventura is set to start the series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 20.

The Royals soon could have some options in the rotation. Jason Vargas is set for a rehabilitation start on Monday at Class AA Northwest Arkansas.
