Catcher Salvador Perez got the day off as the Royals took on the Red Sox at Kauffman Stadium at 1:10 p.m. Sunday (Fox Sports Kansas City, 610-AM).

Starting pitchers were the Royals’ Chris Young (6-2, 1.98) and the Red Sox’s Wade Miley (6-6, 4.88).

Backup catcher Drew Butera started and batted ninth. Also, Christian Colon got the start at third base and batted eighth, giving Mike Moustakas a day off.

“It’s a good chance to get Butera and Colon in there,” Royals manager Ned Yost said.

Yost said center fielder Lorenzo Cain likely will get a day off on Monday, when the Royals open a nine-game road trip in Seattle.

The Royals hoped to win the series after taking Saturday’s game 7-4. The Royals were 3-1 on the home stand going into Sunday’s game.
