Yohan Pino spent one day with the Royals, long enough to wear the loss on Friday night. A day after Pino gave up six runs to the Red Sox, the team optioned him back to Class AAA Omaha.

In his place the club recalled right-hander Aaron Brooks. Brooks will serve as a long reliever in the bullpen likely until Wednesday, when the team intends to activate Danny Duffy from the disabled list to start against the Mariners.

Brooks, 25, has posted a 3.42 ERA for the Storm Chasers. He threw a scoreless inning for Kansas City on May 15.
