Tim Collins, Jason Vargas added to Royals roster for ALDS, with Raul Ibanez, Jayson Nix off
Tim Collins has pitched in four games for Kansas City since June 16. The team banished him to Class AAA Omaha due to an inability to command the baseball, and when he returned in mid-September, he did not pitch in high-leverage situations. He finished the season with a career-low strikeout rate (6.4 per nine) and a career-high ERA (3.86).
But he will be on the roster for the American League Division Series against the Angels.
Collins was the lone surprising addition to the team’s roster, which is nearly identical to the one the Royals used in Tuesday’s Wild Card Game against Oakland. The other addition is game one starter Jason Vargas. Outfielder Raul Ibanez and infielder Jayson Nix were left off the roster to make room.
