The upstarts of 2014 meet the upstarts of 2015 this week at Target Field.

The Royals have already dueled with the Twins this season. But those encounters occurred in April, when Minnesota appeared ready to spend another season as the doormats of the American League Central.

The Twins caught fire in May. They won 20-7 last month and snatched first place from the Royals. Kansas City can reclaim their throne this week. The Royals trail by a game in the standings.

Here are the pitching matchups for this three-game series:

Monday, 7:10 p.m.: LHP Jason Vargas (4-2, 4.79 ERA) vs. RHP Phil Hughes (4-5, 4.96 ERA).

Tuesday, 7:10 p.m.: RHP Chris Young (4-2, 2.56 ERA) vs. RHP Trevor May (4-3, 4.45 ERA).

Wednesday, 7:10 p.m.: RHP Edinson Volquez (4-4, 3.26 ERA) vs. RHP Kyle Gibson (4-3, 3.00 ERA)
