Selfie Joe?

Vice President Joe Biden addressed Yale University’s Class of 2015 last weekend, and Korbin Richards, who attended Shawnee Mission South, earned a Bachelor’s degree in English. Funny hats are a Yale Class Day tradition, but Richards chose sentimental over funny with an accent on the Royals and got this photograph with Biden.

Here’s her story:

“I decided to wear my grandpa’s Royals hat for class day after he passed away before the end of the World Series. When I found out Joe Biden would be class day speaker, I figured VP Joe is just rogue enough to take a selfie with a Yalie waving a sign in the crowd; Grandpa would be thrilled to see his hat and granddaughter next to one of his favorite politicians. So before walking onto Old Campus, I hid a sign that said, “Selfie, Joe?” (despite the no sign rule) then sat as close to the front as possible. With everything I have, I wish Grandpa could see this picture. My grandparents are my heart, and this degree is for them.”
