Chris Young has made two starts for the Royals, and he has yet to allow an earned run. His presence has proved massive for a starting rotation that continues to stumble. On Friday night, in what figures to be a sold-out Kauffman Stadium, he’ll duel with Yankees right-hander Michael Pineda. Pineda struck out 16 batters in his last outing.

The Yankees announced Chris Capuano will make Sunday’s start, shuffling their rotation after putting right-hander Chase Whitley on the disabled list because of a sprained right elbow. Capuano is coming off a quadriceps injury. Nathan Eovaldi, previously announced as Sunday’s starter, will be pushed back to Tuesday.

Here are the pitching matchups for this three-game series between two first-place teams:

Friday, 7:10 p.m.: RHP Chris Young (2-0, 0.78 ERA) vs. RHP Michael Pineda (5-0, 2.72 ERA).

Saturday, 6:10 p.m.: LHP Danny Duffy (2-2, 5.67 ERA) vs. LHP CC Sabathia (1-5, 5.20 ERA).

Sunday, 1:10 p.m.: RHP Edinson Volquez (2-3, 3.19 ERA) vs. LHP Chris Capuano (2-3, 4.25 ERA).
