Royals assign former All Star shortstop Rafael Furcal to Class A Wilmington
DETROIT – Kansas City activated former All-Star shortstop Rafael Furcal from the minor-league disabled list and assigned him to Class A Wilmington.
Furcal, 37, has played in nine big-league games since 2013. He tore a hamstring muscle during the winter. He had been rehabilitating at the club’s complex in Surprise, Ariz.
Furcal played in Atlanta when general manager Dayton Moore was a member of the front office. Kansas City signed him to a minor-league deal in March. He could aid the Royals as a reserve in the second half of the season.
