Alex Rios has begun swinging a bat without making contact, a tentative step forward on his return to the Royals after a broken left hand landed him on the disabled list.

Manager Ned Yost relayed the update before Thursday’s game against the Indians. Yost has tentatively said Rios could be ready in two weeks.

“He started picking up a bat and doing some dry swings,” Yost said. “He’s right on schedule.”

Rios has been out since April 13.
