Alex Gordon will bat leadoff for the first time this season as the Royals take on the Tigers on Thursday night. First pitch at Kauffman Stadium is 7:10 p.m.

Alcides Escobar usually leads off, but he’s not in the starting lineup, a day after getting hit in the face with a pitch at Cleveland. Christian Colon will start at shortstop and bat ninth.

Royals manager Ned Yost said moving Gordon to the top from the sixth spot, where’s he’s all season, was an easy call.

“Gordy’s hot right now,” Yost said before the game. “You want to give your hot hitters the most at-bats.”
