After a night of rest, Omar Infante has yet to be placed on the disabled list, and manager Ned Yost believes Infante can return to action in the near-future. Infante could be available in an emergency by Tuesday, Yost said.

Infante suffered a left groin strain Sunday. Yost indicated Infante would likely require a trip to the D.L. But Infante’s condition improved over night, Yost explained.

"Yesterday, it was real sore," Yost said before Monday’s game with the Twins. "He walked in today and it was better."

With Infante out, Christian Colon will start at second base. Alcides Escobar returned to the lineup on Monday against Minnesota.

The club also called up infielder Orlando Calixte to improve their infield depth. Calixte played shortstop for the final four innings after Infante’s injury on Sunday.

Infante pulled up lame after hitting a double against Oakland. He is hitting .250 after an early slump.
