Friday should be an emotional evening for Billy Butler. He will return to Kauffman Stadium for the first time as a member of the Oakland Athletics. The composition of his new club is quite different than the version the Royals overcame in the Wild Card game last year.

But their pitching is still strong. Here are the matchups for this weekend:

Friday, 7:10 p.m.: RHP Jeremy Guthrie (1-0, 5.14 ERA) vs. RHP Sonny Gray (1-0, 0.59 ERA).

Saturday, 6:10 p.m.: RHP Yordano Ventura (2-0, 2.31 ERA) vs. RHP Jesse Hahn (0-1, 3.09 ERA).

Sunday, 1:10 p.m.: LHP Danny Duffy (1-0, 6.35 ERA) vs. LHP Scott Kazmir (2-0, 0.69 ERA).

FROM THE STAR

1. The Royals committed some rare defensive miscues, and they dropped a series to the Twins.

2. Sam Mellinger caught up with Butler on the eve of his return. A great column.

THE ROYALS’ PLAYOFF PERCENTAGE (ACCORDING TO BASEBALL PROSPECTUS)

21.6 percent.
