The Royals reconfigured their lineup for tonight’s game against the Minnesota Twins to compensate for Alex Rios’ departure to the disabled list, but Lorenzo Cain won’t lose his eligibility for Gold Glove consideration. Cain will remain in center field, with Jarrod Dyson replacing Rios in right.

Dyson will form a platoon with Paulo Orlando in right field. Dyson will mostly start against right-handed pitchers. Orlando will mostly start against lefties.

In 2014, the Royals often used Dyson in center and Cain in right. This left Cain ineligible for a Gold Glove, even though he is widely considered one of the game’s best center fielders. Manager Ned Yost believes Cain can better handle the physical strain of playing center every day in 2015.
