Omar Infante to play second base for Royals in minor-league game
Omar Infante will play three to five innings at second base in a minor-league game on Sunday afternoon. It will be his first action in the field this spring, as he recovers from a bone spur in his right elbow.
"It’s a step," manager Ned Yost said. "I wouldn’t classify it as a ‘big step.’ It’s a step. And we’ll see."
If Infante completes this assignment without incident, he could play in a Cactus League game on Monday.
Infante has received plenty of at-bats as the designated hitter in big-league games this spring. But he has been held out of the field because of concerns about his elbow.
