Alex Gordon competed in a minor-league game on Friday afternoon, and remains on track to make his Cactus League debut on Saturday against the White Sox.

Gordon has been recovering from offseason wrist surgery. Before camp began, Gordon estimated he would miss a week of games. He has already missed two. But the club remains confident he’ll be ready for Opening Day.

Manager Ned Yost treats the matter as settled.

"It really wasn’t a whole lot of uncertainty," Yost said. "We knew they would get in there and get it fixed. Gordie is generally a fast healer. So we had a real high level of confidence that he was going to be ready to go Opening Day. So he’s been right on schedule all along."

Gordon will play left field and bat third on Saturday. Yost indicated he would bat second on Sunday. Yost is still tinkering with his batting order. He could bat Gordon, Alex Rios or Eric Hosmer in the No. 2 spot.
