Yordano Ventura will make his 2015 Cactus League debut on Friday against the Reds at Surprise Stadium. Ventura will throw two innings.

Ventura is the first member of the five-man rotation to start a game this spring. He is also expected to start on Opening Day against the White Sox on April 6. The team has not revealed its choice yet. Manager Ned Yost continues to dodge the subject, in increasingly humorous fashion.

“I mean, we haven’t even played a game yet, and you guys want to know who the Opening Day starter is,” Yost said. “Keep your pants on.”

On Friday, Ventura will be followed by Joe Blanton, Casey Coleman and Franklin Morales. Aaron Brooks starts the spring opener on Wednesday. Brian Flynn will start on Thursday.

“Starters go two the first time around,” Yost said. “We bump them up so they’ll get six starts. Their fifth start, we ramp ‘em up to about 90 (pitches). And then their sixth start is always a back-down, to be ready.”
