SportsBeat KC and KCQ team up: The A-Team answers your Chiefs-related questions

We asked what you wanted to know about the Chiefs before the big game in Miami on Sunday and answered your questions on today’s SportsBeat KC podcast.

Most of the A-Team — Blair Kerkhoff, Sam McDowell, Vahe Gregorian and Herbie Teope (Sam Mellinger was “out getting provisions”) — gathered to discuss several questions submitted by “What’s your KCQ?” readers. These questions were chosen:

Do you think that Patrick Mahomes will be the Super Bowl MVP and do you think that the chiefs defense continue to play like the have been?

Teope predicts, no — “The MVP’s probably going to come on defense.”

But McDowell has high hopes for the quarterback: “I think the Chiefs are going to win. And if you think the Chiefs are going to win, what is it 90% chance, I think, that Patrick Mahomes is going to be the MVP of this game?”

What will be the least amount of points for the Chiefs to score to win the Super Bowl?

The A-Team’s thinking it’ll be the high 20s.

Is it possible that the Chiefs or Travis Kelce will owe The Beastie Boys any royalty copyright fees?

No one on our A-Team is a copyright lawyer, but they said it’s unlikely that would happen because they have permission to play that song at the stadium — “unless it gets printed on a T-Shirt,” they joked.

Here’s the story on Kelce’s post championship ode to the Beastie Boys.

Will the Chiefs return to St. Joseph for training camp in 2020?

Yes — officially for one more year. Past that, it’s likely the team will stay close to home. Teope said “it’s getting very rare for teams to go elsewhere.”

Factors that go into this?: Business and fan experience.

What ever happened to Morris Stroud who coach Stram would place at the goal post to bat down long field goal attempts?

At 6-foot-10, he was placed in the end zone essentially to goal tend. The NFL now has the “Stroud Rule” that prohibits this.

Morris Stroud passed away in 2016.

What is going on with LeSean McCoy?

The A-Team said it comes down to load management and McCoy’s age.

“My belief is that Andy has been referring to it as load management, he’s not getting any younger,” Gregorian said.

Andy Reid’s success coming off a bye or with added prep time is empirical. How will Super Bowl hoopla and media responsibilities impact prep time?

“I think it’s an interesting question because it is an environment unlike any thing in sports. There is nothing like this week in sports,” Kerkhoff said.

He said they learned Friday that “in anticipation of all that has to be dealt with once you get down here,” Reid had said he had the game plan in — almost 100%.

The hoopla is almost behind them, though.
