More than 20,000 customers were without power after powerful thunderstorms rolled through the Kansas City metro early Thursday, according to utility companies’ outage maps.

About 19,700 Evergy customers were without electricity as of 6:45 a.m. Tuesday. The outages mostly affected those south of the Missouri River.

Johnson County was the hardest hit county in the metro, with more than 9,440 customers without power, according to Evergy’s outage map. Jackson County was second, with nearly 5,500 customers without electricity.

Evergy was also reporting that 2,771 customers in Leavenworth County, 1,203 in Cass County, and 252 in Clay County were without power.

In a note on its outage map, Evergy said that estimated restoration times were unavailable due to the storm activity.

Meanwhile, the Kansas City, Kansas, Board of Public Utilities reported that 868 customers in Wyandotte County were without power. Independence Power & Light had 14 customers reporting outages.
