Kansas City’s morning commute will be accompanied by showers and non-severe storms before clouds clear out and give the region a sunny break.

But sunny skies aren’t forecast to last long, with more storm chances returning by Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday’s high temperature is expected to be near 82 degrees. Cloudy and rainy conditions prevail throughout the morning, then in the afternoon the sun pokes through with calm winds. No severe weather is expected Tuesday.

Tuesday night is forecast to be clear and calm with a low around 68 degrees.

Then Wednesday, Kansas City should prepare for an “exceptionally windy” day, when the high temperature could climb into the mid-90s. Non-storm related wind gusts could reach 50 mph, the weather service said.

Severe storm potential also returns to the region Wednesday afternoon and evening. There is a level 3 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening for central and northeast Missouri. Risk levels drop off in the northwest part of the state, including Kansas City, which is only under a slight risk for severe storms.

The greatest threat Wednesday’s storms could bring are strong winds, hail, and potential for tornados, the weather service said.

Lingering showers, sunny Friday

Kansas City’s midweek forecast includes showers that persist at least through Thursday. Central Missouri is forecast to be hit with more rain than the metro. Thursday’s high temperature is forecast near 80 degrees.

By Friday, conditions clear to give Kansas City a sunny Juneteenth holiday. The high temperature Friday is forecast around 87 degrees.

Then looking ahead to the weekend, meteorologists are tracking potential for more severe storms that may bring excessive rainfall. Showers and thunderstorms are likely, but their timing is still to be determined.
