The National Weather Service in Kansas City has issued a tornado watch Saturday afternoon, lasting through 11 p.m.

Heavy rain and storms are forecast to hit Kansas City in the late afternoon and evening, potentially bringing damaging winds and hail.

The weather service said Kansas City is under an enhanced risk for severe storms that could produce golf ball sized hail. By later evening, storms are tracking to move southeast across the region.

Excessive rainfall from the storms after soggy overnight conditions could lead to dangerous flash flooding, the weather service said.

A flood watch is also in effect until 7 a.m. Sunday.

“Storms are expected to initially develop in a discrete mode before building into a line of storms through the evening,” the weather service said on social media.
