Storm chances return as Kansas City heads into hot, humid stretch
After overnight and morning rain, Kansas City gets a break from soggy conditions before more storm chances return over the weekend, the forecast shows.
A few strong storms were possible in the early morning Friday, north of the metro. That area, mostly north of Highway 36, has a slight risk of thunderstorms Friday night into the overnight hours. During that time, there’s a risk of flooding in northwest Missouri, according to the National Weather Service.
Rain clouds are shifting east from Kansas City Friday, giving way to a partly sunny day with a high near 88 degrees.
Then Saturday and Sunday, storm chances return to the metro, the forecast shows.
Saturday will be partly sunny with a high near 88 degrees. Then, storms are likely in the overnight hours, mostly after 1 a.m.
Storm development in the northern half of Missouri could produce winds up to 60 mph and one-inch hail, according to the weather service.
Soggy conditions are expected to linger from overnight Saturday into Sunday. The region could see some prolonged rain and potentially heavy rain at times Sunday and Monday, according to the weather service.
Kansas City braces for heat
Heat and humidity is also forecast to increase through the weekend.
Air temperatures in the 80s with dew points in the upper 60s to lower 70s will produce heat index values in the 90s multiple days next week, the weather service said.
Meteorologists are monitoring dew points to predict how high the heat index could climb. Depending on what happens, it may feel like 100 degrees by Tuesday.
“If you are susceptible to high heat keep an eye on Tuesday through Thursday, but don’t be shocked if there is a trend downward away from those higher dew points,” meteorologists said in a Friday weather discussion.
