From storms to steam: Kansas City heats up Monday after rough morning weather
After strong thunderstorms swept across the Kansas City area early Monday, a hot and steamy day is on tap for the metro, according to the National Weather Service.
The storms prompted a tornado warning for parts of the metro before moving east out of the area.
Dew point values, a measure of humidity, are expected to climb back into the low to mid-70s, making for a muggy first day of June, the weather service said.
Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-80s, but the humidity sends heat index values into the 90s.
Winds are expected to shift as a high-pressure system builds into the area, making it feel less steamy Tuesday and Wednesday as Gulf moisture is reduced. The heat index should be closer to the actual temperature, with highs around 81 degrees, near normal for this time of year.
The winds will shift late in the week, becoming increasingly southerly as a storm system approaches. This system will bring another active period of weather to the area from Friday through the weekend, according to the weather service.
The upcoming weekend’s forecast indicates that it will be rainy, with chances for showers and thunderstorms through Sunday.
