Cool, damp stretch for Kansas City with thunder possible. Any severe storms?
Off-and-on showers will keep the Kansas City area damp Tuesday, but the risk of severe storms has faded, according to the National Weather Service.
The threat of severe weather quickly decreased early Tuesday as a cold front moved south of Interstate 70.
Small weather disturbances will bring additional showers and a few thunderstorms throughout the day. Heavy downpours are possible, with some areas mainly south of Interstate 70 seeing around 1 to 1.5 inches of rain, the weather service said.
A few thunderstorms could also produce lightning, but they’re expected to be short-lived.
Because of the rain, it will be cooler in the Kansas City area, with high temperatures around 58 degrees, well below the average of 71 degrees typical for early May.
Additional weather disturbances could bring more showers Tuesday night, but rainfall may be lighter as drier air moves in from the north, the weather service said.
Cloud cover and a lingering cool air mass across the region will keep Wednesday’s high temperatures in the upper 50s.
Warmer weather is expected late in the week into the weekend, but periodic weather disturbances will create additional chances of showers and thunderstorms, the weather service said.
