Floodwaters inundated part of a neighborhood off Interstate 435 near East 23rd Trafficway on Monday after heavy rains drenched the Kansas City area.

The flooding appeared to be centered near East 23rd Trafficway and Television Place, which sits at the bottom of the hilly Blue Summit area. The high water closed roads in the area.

Vehicles could be seen abandoned in the floodwater, and the Fisca gas station was swamped by the water. The nearby business Pallet Rack KC also took on some water on part of its property.

“This is an area MODOT crews watch closely in the case of heavy rainfall and make closures as necessary,” MoDOT spokeswoman Brooke Rohlfing said in an email to The Star. “We see more closures in this area when we have heavy and repetitive rainfall.”

Rohlfing said crews will continue to monitor the area throughout the evening and overnight.
