Frigid temps, overnight snow begins KC weekend. Warmer days ahead
Freezing cold and a bitter wind chill arrived in Kansas City Friday evening and will last through at least Saturday morning, but snowfall will be limited over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Low temperatures were forecast near zero degrees Saturday morning and wind chill values ranged between -3 and -15 degrees, the weather service said.
Temperatures will gradually warm into the 20s by Saturday afternoon, but that’s still about 20 degrees below normal for this time of year, the weather service said on social media.
Saturday night into Sunday morning, a light dusting of snow is possible, mainly north of Highway 36, according to the weather service. Kansas City is unlikely to see accumulating snow over the weekend.
Saturday’s overnight low is expected to be near 16 degrees with mild wind.
Then Sunday, conditions will shift from cloudy to sunny and allow for a high temperature near 37 degrees.
KC temps warmer next week
The weather service forecasts temperatures trending warmer later next week.
Monday is forecast to be mostly sunny and the high could reach the low 40s. Tuesday could be partly sunny and the high temperature is expected to be in the high 30s, the forecast shows.
By late January, high temperatures are typically in the low 40s around Kansas City, according to the weather service.
