Up to 4 inches of snow blankets Kansas City. See map of highest early totals
Between 2 and 4 inches of snow blanketed the Kansas City area by Saturday afternoon as a major winter storm swept across the southern U.S. toward the East Coast.
Up to 4 inches had already fallen near St. Joseph, according to the National Weather Service.
At Kansas City International Airport — the official weather reporting station for the metro — 2.8 inches had fallen as of 12:30 p.m., the weather service reported.
Snowfall totals varied widely across the region. Some of the highest early amounts included 3.5 inches in Independence, 3 inches in Cameron, 2.8 inches north of Tonganoxie in Leavenworth County, and 1.8 inches in Olathe. However, some areas received much less. Only 0.8 inch of snow has been recorded so far at the National Weather Service office in Pleasant Hill, while 1 inch was reported in Gladstone.

More light to moderate snow is on the way, the weather service said.
“Light snow is expected to continue through much of the day,” the weather service said. “Snowfall rates are expected to maximize this afternoon, and wane this evening into Sunday morning.”
The snow is expected to end late Saturday evening in far northwest Missouri, with the line marking the end of snow shifting south of Butler and Sedalia soon after noon on Sunday, the weather service said on X, formerly Twitter.
