Christmas week forecast holds an unexpected twist for Kansas City
It’s cold outside, Kansas City, but be patient; warmer, early-spring-like days are on the way.
“After a cold start this morning, temperatures are expected to be above average for the next seven days,” the National Weather Service said.
The temperature was 17 degrees shortly before 6 a.m at Kansas City International Airport (MCI) on Friday.
Temperatures are expected to climb to around 46 degrees in the afternoon, a few degrees above the typical 41-degree average for this time of year.
There is an elevated risk of afternoon wildfires due to expected breezy winds. South winds of 10 to 20 mph are expected, along with gusts of 30 mph. The relative humidity is expected to drop below 30%, the weather service said.
The weather will be slightly warmer on Saturday, with temperatures rising to around 50 degrees. However, a cold front will move into the area, leading to a slight drop in temperatures on Saturday night and Sunday. High temperatures are expected to be around 47 degrees on Sunday.
“Then, the real warmup begins,” the weather service said.
Forecasters are confident that well-above-average temperatures and dry conditions will persist throughout next week, with Wednesday (Christmas Eve) and Thursday (Christmas Day) expected to be the warmest days, the weather service said.
Temperatures will be 55 degrees on Monday and 61 Tuesday. Near-record-high temperatures are likely on Wednesday and Thursday. The record for Christmas is 67 degrees, set in 1922.
“No white Christmas this year,” the weather service said.
