Falling temps & sub-zero wind chills bring frigid weekend to Kansas City
Temperatures are starting to chill in Kansas City again as arctic air arrives ahead of the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
People should prepare to bundle up as bitter cold wind chills are expected to make KC frigid again after a few days in the low 50s.
Friday will be partly sunny with a high temperature near 38 degrees. The colder weather will come Saturday night into Sunday morning, when wind chill values could be between -1 and 4 degrees, the forecast shows.
Flurries of snow Friday and light snow accumulation is possible for far northern Missouri Saturday. However, snow will likely miss the Kansas City metro, according to the forecast.
Weather models show snow accumulating around 1 inch near towns in the north and northeast, including Bethany, Kirksville and Hannibal.
Kansas City will see a high temperature below freezing, around 30 degrees, on Saturday during a partly sunny day. It could be a windy day, according to the forecast, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
The overnight low Saturday will be near 8 degrees in Kansas City, with wind gusts up to 18 mph.
Then, cold air will linger through at least Monday morning, the forecast shows. Frigid, subzero wind chills will affect most of the state Sunday morning. In Kansas City, the wind chill could dip to -1 degrees.
Other parts of central and northern Missouri will see harsher wind chill values, in the -6, -8 and up to -17 in the northeast.
However, the bitter cold will be short-lived.
Temperatures are expected to climb back up into the high 40s and low 50s by the middle of next week, the forecast shows.
