Don’t dress for just one season: KC has a surprise in store with today’s weather
It will feel like a tale of two seasons in Kansas City on Tuesday; people will want heavy coats when they head out the door in the morning, but will need a light jacket, if anything, by the time they return home.
Temperatures were 37 degrees with wind chills in the mid- to upper 20s shortly before 7 a.m. at Kansas City International Airport.
Southerly winds gusting to 20 to 30 mph are bringing warmer air to the region, which will allow temperatures to soar to the mid-50s to lower 60s, according to the National Weather Service.
The metro is expected to reach temperatures of 61 degrees, above the normal of 56 degrees, the weather service said.
The gusty wind, combined with warm temperatures and low relative humidity, will create an elevated risk of wildfires in the afternoon.
Above-average temperatures are expected to persist through the end of the week, climbing from the mid-60s on Wednesday to the mid-70s on Saturday, which is nearly 20 degrees above normal for mid-November.
“There have been some changes in the model runs over the past 24 hours regarding precipitation chances,” the weather service said.
Earlier forecasts indicated that a storm system would move from California and reach the Kansas City area by Saturday, allowing rain to spread over the area Saturday night, the weather service said.
Some of the latest weather computer model runs, however, indicate that the system will slow and not arrive until Sunday night, the weather service said. That will keep the weather dry for much of the weekend, with rain holding off until overnight Sunday.
A weak cold front is expected to move through the area Saturday into Sunday, so Sunday will not be as warm as Saturday, but it will still be above average in the 60s.
