Warm weather won’t last: Bitter cold coming soon to Kansas City
Dry and warmer-than-usual weather will stick around Kansas City through Thursday, but a change is coming that could bring rain to some areas and bitter cold by the end of the weekend.
A mostly quiet day is expected on Wednesday, with temperatures climbing to a high of 62 degrees, even as a cold front is forecasted to pass through a part of the region, according to the National Weather Service. Typically, Kansas City temperatures are around 58 degrees this time of year.
It will be a little warmer on Thursday, with temperatures expected to reach around 70 degrees.
Rain chances return late Thursday night into early Friday, mainly for areas east of Interstate 35, where the chance of rain ranges from 30% to 50%, the weather service said. Rainfall totals will be light, and no severe weather is expected.
Sunny skies on Friday will help temperatures climb to around 70.
Another low-pressure system will move through the area on Saturday, bringing in a slight chance of rain, the weather service said. Temperatures in the low 60s are also expected.
This system will also usher in the coldest weather of the season so far, lingering into early next week.
Temperatures are expected to peak only at 42 degrees on Sunday, with a hard freeze possible overnight, the weather service said. Temperatures are expected to tumble into the mid-20s by early Monday, with wind chills in the teens.
However, this bitter cold will be just a preview, as temperatures are expected to rebound to the 60s on Veterans Day.
