Ghosts aren’t the only thing giving chills this Halloween — freezing temperatures are in the forecast for Kansas City.

Trick-or-treaters can expect a chilly evening Friday as the Kansas City area braces for temperatures to drop continually over the next couple of days.

Friday will be a pleasant day with the high temperature near 60 degrees, however, temperatures will quickly dip in the evening after the sun sets, the forecast shows.

Families who are out and about may want to consider ways to bundle up with their costumes. Temperatures across the metro will range from the 50s into the low 40s and upper 30s Friday night, according to the forecast.

Friday’s overnight low is expected to be near 36 degrees.

A frost advisory was issued overnight Thursday into early Friday morning. It was set to expire around 9 a.m.

North of the Kansas City metro, freezing temperatures are also expected on Halloween. A freeze watch is in effect overnight for northern Missouri, according to the National Weather Service.

A slight chance of rain is also possible Friday south of the Kansas City metro. Any rainfall will be trace amounts, though, the weather service said.

Freeze watch in Kansas City

Meteorologists expect widespread freezing temperatures across the region Saturday night. Temperatures are expected to drop roughly 10 degrees colder than Friday and be accompanied by a stiff northwest breeze.

Saturday should be a mostly sunny day with the high temperature near 50 degrees, the forecast shows. Then, there is an 80% chance for a hard freeze in the Kansas City area Saturday night, according to the weather service.

Early Sunday morning, low temperatures combined with moisture in the air will bring widespread frost, mainly between 4-9 a.m., meteorologists said in a forecast discussion.

The overnight low Saturday is expected to be near 32 degrees.

Sunday will be sunny with the high temperature near 56 degrees, according to the weather service. Sunday night will be mostly clear with a high near 44 degrees.

After the weekend freeze, temperatures are expected to warm rapidly next week, the forecast shows.

Kansas Cititans can expect dry, sunny and mild weather next week with high temperatures 10-15 degrees above average for this time of year by mid-week, according to the weather service.
