Summer-like temperatures are expected to continue this week in Kansas City

The summer-like temperatures Kansas City has seen in the early part of October are expected to continue this week, the National Weather Service said in its Monday morning forecast.

High temperatures in Kansas City so far in October have averaged around 81 degrees, about 10 degrees above normal, according to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration data.

With a cold front that moved in overnight, highs on Monday are forecast in the low-to-mid 70s, but temperatures will return into the 80s by Thursday, the weather service said.

Along with the cold front, the metro saw some light rain overnight. Those showers could continue to pop up throughout the day Monday, with chances for rain around the region ranging from 20-40%.

Rainfall amounts were generally expected to total less than a tenth of an inch.

The next chance for notable weather is expected to be Friday, when the forecast calls for another cold front and a chance of showers and thunderstorms before conditions dry out Saturday night. Severe weather is not expected.
