Rain chances bookend Kansas City’s weekend — what about the weather in between?
Those lucky enough to catch some of the scattered morning showers and thunderstorms across the Kansas City region early Friday will see skies clear and dry weather return by afternoon
The storms developed along a cold front moving through the area, but weak instability means these storms were expected to be more “of the garden variety,” as the National Weather Service put it in its forecast discussion. Severe weather was not expected.
By the afternoon, the weak cold front will have moved south of the forecast area, allowing temperatures to rise into the mid-70s to lower 80s. In the metro, temperatures are expected to reach 80 degrees. For comparison, Kansas City temperatures are typically around 70 degrees for this time of year.
A high-pressure system over the Plains on Friday will shift eastward over the area, setting up a warm weekend by mid-October standards.
Sunday is expected to be the warmest day of the weekend, with temperatures in the mid- to upper 80s, according to the weather service.
Fans headed to the Kansas City Chiefs-Detroit Lions game Sunday evening at Arrowhead Stadium should expect warm temperatures. At kickoff, temperatures will likely be around 80 degrees.
Another cold front could bring a slight chance for scattered storms to the area late Sunday into Monday, the weather service said.
Temperatures are forecast to dip into the low 70s on Monday and Tuesday.
After Monday, the weather will dry out again, and temperatures will gradually warm up through the end of next week, reaching near 80 degrees on Thursday.
